The 2025 Sudirman Cup World Mixed Team Badminton Championships kicked off on April 27 at the Phoenix Gymnasium of the Xiamen Olympic Sports Center. Host nation China faced off against African champions Algeria in their first match. The Chinese team, represented by Jiang Zhenbang/Wei Yaxin, Wang Zhiyi, Shi Yuqi, Chen Qingchen/Jia Yifan, and Chen Boyang/Liu Yi, each claimed straight-set victories, leading China to a 5–0 sweep and a strong start to the tournament.

Before the match, under the leadership of team captain Jia Yifan, the Chinese players gathered together to motivate each other, rallying around the slogan “Roaring atop Gulang, China Aims for Glory.”

In this tournament, China is grouped with Algeria, Hong Kong China, and Thailand in Group A, with their first match against Algeria.

The competition began with the mixed doubles match, where Jiang Zhenbang/Wei Yaxin made their Sudirman Cup debut and defeated Mammeri/Tanina 21–11, 21–13, securing the first point for China.

"I’m really happy to have won the opening match for China," said Wei Yaxin. "It felt very different playing the first match, with the team's atmosphere and the energy in the arena," Jiang Zhenbang added.

In the second match, women's singles player Wang Zhiyi quickly dispatched Boukhsani 21–5, 21–3, extending China's lead to 2–0.

"I was quite excited. When I came onto the court, the crowd was cheering for me, and my teammates and coaches were all watching. That really motivated me," said Wang Zhiyi.

In the third match, Shi Yuqi dominated Hamek 21–12, 21–9 in the men's singles, securing overall victory for China early.

According to the tournament rules, all five matches must be played during the group stage. Chen Qingchen/Jia Yifan and Chen Boyang/Liu Yi then followed with two more 2–0 wins, sealing a comprehensive 5–0 victory over Algeria.

China’s next match in the group stage will be against Hong Kong China at 5 p.m. on April 28.
