To better prepare for the Los Angeles Olympic Games, the General Administration of Sport of China recently issued a notice regarding adjustments to the competition events for the 15th National Games. Following these adjustments, the 15th National Games will feature a total of 34 major events and 419 sub-events.

Seven sports will see the addition of new events: swimming, coastal rowing, golf, new modern pentathlon, athletics, archery, and shooting. Additionally, adjustments will be made to the sport climbing events, specifically splitting the men’s and women’s combined bouldering and lead events into separate disciplines.

In detail, the new events added to the seven sports are as follows:

Swimming: Six new sub-events, including men's 50m backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly, as well as women's 50m backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly.

Coastal Rowing: Three new sub-events — men’s single sculls, women’s single sculls, and mixed double sculls.

Golf: Two new sub-events — men’s individual and women’s individual.

New Modern Pentathlon: Two new sub-events — men’s individual and women’s individual.

Athletics: One new sub-event — 4×100m mixed relay.

Archery: One new sub-event — compound bow mixed team event.

Shooting: One new sub-event — mixed team in trap shooting.

As for the adjustments in sport climbing, the men’s and women’s combined bouldering and lead events will be split into four separate sub-events: men’s bouldering, men’s lead, women’s bouldering, and women’s lead.

Qualification methods for these new and adjusted events vary:

For the six new swimming sub-events, athletes must first qualify for the swimming competition and then meet specific performance standards at either the 15th National Games qualifiers, the 2025 World Championships in Singapore, or the 2025 World Youth Championships in Romania. The standards are as follows:

50m backstroke: men – 26.52s, women – 29.54s

50m breaststroke: men – 28.77s, women – 33.10s

50m butterfly: men – 24.88s, women – 27.41s

For coastal rowing, golf, and the new modern pentathlon, qualification procedures will follow the official competition regulations of the 15th National Games for each respective sport.

In athletics, the top 16 teams in the 4×100m mixed relay at the 2025 National Relay Championships will qualify for the 15th National Games.

In archery, the top 16 teams in the compound bow mixed team qualification event will earn berths for the National Games.

In shooting, any team that qualifies for the men’s and women’s individual trap events at the National Games will automatically qualify for the mixed trap team event. Each team may enter up to two pairs (each pair consisting of one male and one female athlete, both of whom must also be participating in individual events).

In sport climbing, athletes who qualify for the men’s and women’s combined bouldering and lead events will also be eligible to compete in the individual bouldering and lead events.
